Apparently the first acoustic guitars of John Lennon, George
Harrison, Brian May and Rory Gallagher, and the first electric
guitar and bass guitar of Paul McCartney, Egmonds were not
highly expensive so they were within the grasp of
many starting guitarists. McCartney's first electric
guitar was an Egmond Solid Seven.
Egmond Model 3 was built in Holland by Dick Egmond and
company around 1965 and is similar to Fender’s Jazzmaster and
Jaguar. The body of this Egmond guitar is wood covered with
plastic. It is lightweight with three fine sounding pickups.
The neck is a bit chunky, the frets are small and the guitar
plays well with a great whammy bar that stays in tune.
If you keep an eye on eBay, you may actually find an
original such as this for less than a knock off and
Egmond are certainly the real thing. Egmond often
have Rosetti, the name of a musical instrument
distributor, on the headstock. Egmond guitars were more popular
in Europe than in America. Most will be 1960's - 1970.
