Le Domino is a brandname from James R. Stewart Co from the
1920s to 1930s. This company was bought out by Tonk Brothers,
and the brand names were sold off to Regal. Tonk also sold his
manufacturing equipment to Harmony or to Slingerland. Their
guitars are less common, but have no special value and are not
particularly high grade.
The most interesting thing about them is their distinctive
domino decals which may be under the rosette, around the
rosette itself, on the fingerboard and near the tailpiece .
Most are made of plywood but the tenors have been described as
all solid woods - Spruce top, Birch back and sides underneath
the black finish - with a loud, chiming tone and comfortable
setup. Most Regal tenors over the years are Martin size 5
copies with floating bridges.
Regal or Le Donino or Big Boy may be stenciled on the
slotted peg head. It is not unusual to see the J. R Stewart
Logo. The Stewart Logo appears also on the rest of the Le
Domino Line. They made a Guitar, tenor guitar, banjo uke,
banjo, ukulele, both soprano and concert.
